IPL – (Hair Removal & Skin Rejuvenation) at FTT Skin Clinics.

At FTT skin clinics we offer next generation IPL hair removal and skin rejuvenation using our Cellec machine which is one of the most advanced and effective IPL devices for reversing skin aging utilising its photo shower, cell toning and vascular lesion removal functionality. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a technology used by cosmetic and practitioners to perform various skin treatments for both aesthetic and therapeutic purposes.

The technology uses a high powered, hand held, computer controlled flash gun to deliver an intense, visible and broad spectrum pulse of light. IPL shares some similarities with Laser in that they both use light to heat and destroy their targets. Unlike Lasers that use a single wavelength of light (treating one condition) IPL uses a broad spectrum which when used with interchangeable filters allows it to treat several conditions.

The following treatments are available

  • Cell Toning: Uses short rapid pulses to remove pigment lesions such as melasma.
  • Photo Rejuvenation: Uses a continuous stream of 300 light pulses/per minute which reacts with Porphyrin, made by bacteria inducing acne, generating singlet oxygen which kills bacteria.
  • Thread Vein Removal: Applied long wavelengths of light are used for vascular treatment which thermally ablate thread veins removing them permanently.
  • Hair reduction: Certain wavelengths of light are absorbed by the pigment in the hair which turns to heat, killing the growing hair cells.

IPL is comparable to an ultra powerful camera flash against the skin. The selected wavelengths target particular colour pigments which in turn targets particular skin conditions.

IPL is an improvement over laser and typically allows much larger treatment areas. Also our IPL uses a variety of different filters for different colour pigments whereas laser’s typically target a specific colour.

Hairs grow in different cycles – Active, Dormant, shed ( to be replaced with new active hair growth). IPL only remove hair during its active growth cycle which is why multiple treatments are required.

The IPL is absorbed by colour particles on the blood and melanin. The IPL also treats the bacterium in acne and protein present in collagen producing cells.  Pigmentation marks move to the surface and are shed naturally. Lesions are absorbed into the lymphatic system for excretion. Enlarged Pores and scaring diminish and fade. Fine lines and wrinkles are softened and may disappear. Collagen and Elastin production increase improving the skins texture and elasticity.

Most treatments have little or no sensation but others produce a stinging sensation similar to being pinged by an elastic band. If at any time the treatment is uncomfortable then the intensity can be reduced.

With any high energy, light based device there are risks involved including hypo, hyper pigmentation scarring and burning .

We perform a patch test 24 hours prior to treatment to minimize risk.

For 24 hours after each IPL treatment.

  • No sun exposure or UV exposure on sun beds
  • Wear sun block with both UVA and UVB protection
