FTT Skin Clinics – Oily SkinTreatments.

What is Oily Skin?

Oily Skin is a distressing skin issue that can really knock your confidence no matter what age or gender you are.

At FTT Skin Clinics we offer a variety of energy based and skin care treatments. However we always carry out  an initial skin analysis at your consultation to diagnose your skin concern and create the correct treatment plan for you. All our treatment plans are bespoke as well as a combination of at home self care together with in clinic treatments.

At consultation we will measure your skins moisture, sebum, pore size, melanin, acne and sensitivity to provide an automated report on your skins condition. Your report is stored so that we can compare results against future visits to monitor improvements at your review appointments.

What can be done to help?

Our combination bespoke treatments can include, SkinAde, LED, IPL, IPL Photo Shower, Plasma Shower, Obagi BIue Radiance Peel, FTT Skin Rituals for Acne, Obagi Medical Clenziderm, Obagi Medical NuDerm System, prescription medications both topical and oral.

What about acne scarring?

The sooner we see you the better as our most important aspect of managing active acne is to reduce the formation of acne scars. If you have acne scarring we can help with subscision, microneedling, plasma treatments as well as speciality mesotherapy.

    What is Oily Skin?

It is a distressing skin issue that can really knock your confidence no matter what age or gender you are. Women can hide it to an extent with make-up but that in itself can be part of the problem. It can result from clogged pores, over stimulated oil glands, an overgrowth of bacteria, hormonal changes or inflammation resulting in blackheads, small pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. If inflammation develops, it causes the surrounding skin to become red, and the spots become larger and filled with pus. In some cases, the pustules become even larger and form into small nodules and cysts. In some patients, the area of skin that was inflamed remains discoloured for several months after the inflammation has gone causing post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. This is more noticeable in darker-skinned people. A small pitted scar is commonly left in the skin where inflammation was caused.

    Who gets Oily Skin?

It’s not just a teenage issue. Up to 40% of adults experience it into their 30s, 40s and 50s. Many of our patients say they had clear skin throughout their teenage years and quite distressed to have acne breakouts later in life. It is more common in women as women’s hormone levels fluctuate every month and throughout their lifetime. Monthly cycles, pregnancy, starting or stopping birth control pills, and perimenopause all cause hormonal shifts that can lead to adult acne. Stress can also cause hormonal changes because it releases cortisol and androgen hormones. For most men, after puberty, hormone levels remain constant, so they tend to outgrow acne by their mid to late 20s. Up to 25% of men suffer adult male acne due to stress, medication, steroids, friction from clothing or exposure to heat and humidity.
