Temple Filler in Hamilton & Inverness

Introduction

Volume loss in the temples is one of the most common yet least discussed signs of facial ageing. As we lose fat and bone density in the upper face, the temples can become noticeably hollow, creating a gaunt or skeletal appearance and causing the tail of the eyebrow to droop. Restoring volume to the temple area can have a profound rejuvenating effect on the entire upper face.

At FTT Skin Clinics in Hamilton and Inverness, our Advanced Medical Practitioners use premium HA (hyaluronic acid) dermal filler to gently restore this lost volume. The treatment is placed carefully in the temporal fossa — the natural depression at the side of the head — using either a fine needle or blunt cannula, depending on the anatomy and what is safest for each individual patient.

The temple area contains important blood vessels and nerves, which means this treatment demands a practitioner with strong anatomical knowledge. Our team carries out thorough facial assessments at every consultation to confirm suitability and plan the safest, most effective approach.

Frequently asked questions

What causes hollow temples?

Temple hollowing is a natural consequence of ageing. As we get older we lose fat, bone density and collagen throughout the face, including in the temporal region. This is accelerated in patients who carry little facial fat or who have experienced significant weight loss. Sun damage and genetics also play a role.

How much filler is needed for temple treatment?

The volume required varies from person to person depending on the degree of hollowing. Your practitioner will assess this at consultation and use only as much filler as is needed to achieve a natural, balanced result. A conservative approach is always preferable — it is easy to add more at a follow-up appointment.

Can temple filler be combined with other treatments?

Yes, and it often produces the best results when combined with cheek or brow filler, or anti-wrinkle treatments to address the brow area. A holistic facial assessment at consultation will identify which combination of treatments will give you the most natural and harmonious outcome.

Is there much bruising or swelling?

Mild bruising and swelling at the injection site is common and usually resolves within 5–7 days. The risk is minimised by using the most appropriate injection technique for your anatomy. Avoiding blood-thinning medications and alcohol for 24 hours before treatment also helps reduce bruising.

How long does temple filler last?

Temple filler typically lasts between 12 and 18 months because the area has relatively little movement compared to, say, the lips. Your practitioner will advise on timing for a top-up treatment at your consultation.
